Key Responsibilities:• Strategic counsel: Brand positioning and management for organization (CEO, Board);• Corporate communications: Key message development and management; CEO and Board Chair speeches, speaking notes, commentaries; issues management; media training;• Public Affairs: direct all external communications: develop all print- and web-based communications (research, writing, design); simplify/ package research material; releases, op-eds, position papers; national print and broadcast advertising campaigns; advocacy;• Program and special-event management: program launches; sponsor/stakeholder relations;• Media relations: program, event and message awareness; role as spokesperson; media awards.Achievements:• Realized successful strategic repositioning of the organization, including new vision/ mission, enhancing corporate image among stakeholders, sponsors and general public;• Increased stakeholder and public reach and strengthened corporate image by launching print- and web-based publications, including website (www.abc-canada.org) and e-newsletter;• Achieved significant prime-time exposure for the organization in key urban markets with the development of a national television ad campaign;• Created national editorial debate through spearheading advocacy campaign in response to federal funding cuts, including advising other literacy organizations on communications strategies;• Nurtured relations with major sponsors, realizing further corporate commitment to programs and greater financial contribution, including Honda which gained, for four years running, unprecedented media coverage of its support of Family Literacy Day, thanks in part to our launch of a national contest featuring Canadian children’s author Robert Munsch.
