Senior Database EngineerPraxis Engineering Feb 2009 - May 2012Worked as a member of the Mission Support Team for a medium sized system with an Oracle 11g database. I wrote Ad-Hoc queries to support one-time and continuing user requirements. While between projects, I learned MySQL and PHP, using them to build an application supporting the Corporate recruiting team.Continued working with the same Very Large Database (VLDB) project as below, as lead Database Engineer and Operations Support Engineer. Continued to develop enhancements to the system and provide support to thousands of operational users across the world. Trained new database engineer on system functionality. -
Senior Software EngineerLockheed Martin Aug 1998 - Jan 2009Assigned to a Very Large Database (VLDB) project as lead Database Engineer and Configuration Manager. Oversaw the growth of the system from a quick-reaction prototype to a process-oriented development environment, implementing project and configuration management processes. The project involves the warehousing of large amounts of data where useful relationships can be made only after combining the data from several different sources. Responsibilities included the implementation of a three-tier system comprised of a Graphical User Interface (GUI), a middle tier which has knowledge of the database structure, and the database itself. The GUI is implemented in Java and Javascript running in a Web browser. The middle tier is implemented as a Java application using JDBC and PL/SQL running on a Sun Enterprise server under Solaris. The database is Oracle 10g database running on a Sun Enterprise server under Solaris. The interfaces to other systems are implemented primarily as Java applications and as Oracle PL/SQL procedures running on a Sun Enterprise server under Solaris. Received Wingspread Award and Prestige Award in 2001. -
Software EngineerNichols Research Corporation/Communications & Systems Specialists, Inc Sep 1996 - Aug 1998Served as lead database engineer in the development of a large client/server system performing real*time, high capacity digital communications switching, routing, and information tagging. Developed relational database applications software as part of five different NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) control centers using both Ingres and Oracle products. This included coordinating database requirements with customer personnel, and writing windows-based applications for user data entry, modification, and validation. Also supported the Product Assurance Office by writing database applications in FoxPro to support their tracking of the software development process for a 1000 person contract * awarded the Product Assurance Excellence Award for 1994. Developed database applications using R:Base to track software deliveries at the individual unit level. Implemented many improvements in the configuration management (CM) process, and in the overall Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) Network Control Center (NCC) development process * received NCC Quality Performance Recognition award. Led five-person team in developing the NCC System Engineering Database, a set of R:Base applications to track problem/trouble reports, system requirements, and CM information. Spoke at 1992 CSC Special Interest Group Conference on CM Tricks, Traps, and Tools of the Trade. Selected as one of seven CSC SSD Flight Dynamics Technology Group Outstanding Employees of the Year for 1992. -
