I have acted for independent power producers and project lenders to independent power producers in respect of run of river and wind power projects in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland. This work has included transactional, environmental, regulatory, First Nations, real estate and financing components.I have been involved for many years in providing advice to clients regarding environmental issues, including advice regarding contaminated sites, environmental assessments, permitting issues, climate change and emissions trading. Retained by the province as Co-chair of the Contaminated Sites Implementation Committee, I was responsible for the production of the External Review of Mine Reclamation and Environmental Protection under the Mines Act and the Waste Management Act, which led to changes to the Environmental Management Act. I also have worked for a number of years assisting forestry companies with commercial issues including a major international pulp and paper company that has acquired a number of pulp and paper mills across Canada. In addition to the merger and acquisition (M&A) element, this work has involved addressing significant and unique contamination issues, overcoming environmental regulatory hurdles, and permitting mill expansion for the addition of biomass cogeneration and production capacity.A founding member of the Canadian Centre for Environmental Arbitration and Mediation, I have been involved in resolving many significant disputes regarding contaminated sites since the enactment of B.C.’s Environmental Management Act in 1997.At Miller Titerle + Company, I work with many commercial enterprises advising on all aspects of their businesses including providing assistance with mergers and acquisitions in all sizes of transactions.
