Dr. Walton retired from Genesis Physician Group in December 2022, after 10 years serving as the President/CEO. In "retirement", Dr. Walton launched a healthcare consulting & advisory firm, JWalton, LLC (www.jwaltonllc.com), while also continuing to teach at the University of Texas at Dallas' Jindal Naveen School of Management (https://execed.utdallas.edu), and volunteering with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program (www.pep.org).During his tenure at Genesis, he developed their Accountable Care Organization, Genovista Health, LLC., while growing the traditional IPA management services organization to serve over 1,500 North Texas independent physicians, covering 50+ specialties and 500 different practice locations.Prior to joining Genesis, he served as Vice President of Network Performance for Baylor Quality Alliance (BQA). In this role, he supported Baylor Health Care System’s accountable care organization’s performance in achieving the “triple aim” of better care for individuals, better health for populations and lower per capita costs. Dr. Walton joined Baylor in 1996 as Medical Director of the Office of Community Health Improvement. From 2006 – 2011 he served as Baylor’s Chief Health Equity Officer, developing quality improvement strategies to eliminate health disparities in Baylor’s inpatient and ambulatory care settings . Additionally, he has served as the Dallas County Medical Society’s medical director for Project Access Dallas, a network of more than 2,000 physicians and 15 hospitals providing comprehensive health care access to uninsured people throughout Dallas County. Dr. Walton is active in the Dallas County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association's efforts to improve Medicaid operations and funding. Dr. Walton earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas and his doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He received his MBA at The University of Michigan. Dr. Walton is married to Rhonda L. Walton, MD and is the father of four sons, and two grandchildren.
