Since 1949 the Arvada Fire Protection District has provided fire suppression, technical rescue, water and ice rescue, extrication, wildland response, hazardous materials, ambulance, emergency medical and fire and injury prevention services. Apex Park and Recreation District is a special district founded in 1956 with its own taxing authority and with no connection to any other government agency. Approximately 30% of the district’s budget comes from property taxes. 70% comes from program and facility fees, grants, and proceeds from Apex Foundation fundraising efforts. Apex and the City of Arvada share resources and define responsibilities to save taxpayers money. As a board member and president here are some accomplishments that are worthy of recognition:1) Successfully campaigned and passed the first ever mil levy increase in the district's 50 year history2) Refinanced issued bonds to provide a $1,000,000 savings to the district's constituents3) Negotiated and executed an agreement with the City of Arvada to re-develop the District's 1st park with a modern splash pad, to build a $9.5 million indoor turf facility, relocate dance, gymnastics, and cheer programs to a new facility, all in support of a legacy federal sponsored flood plain remediation project. And resolved a disputed property issue that started back in the late 1950's. The project earned the SDA collaboration award.4) Finalized a master plan for the district. Initiated upgrades to the Apex Ice Arenas5) Negotiated with the City the exchange of water rights for a water tap for the District's golf course.6) Changed policy Statewide so County owned property could be deeded to a special district.7) Initiated a sustainability plan to include power, water, recycling, and solar thermal improvements. 8) Installed restroom facilities at the district's largest sports complex (Long Lake Ranch).9) Successfully selected a replacement Executive Director10) Renewed the Apex Bonds and added $30,000,000 in new facilities. I was an executive member of the election committee.
