Joined Demeter at its inception with the goal of building Trading and Logistics Platforms to modernize the agricultural (Ag) industry. + Quickly assembled a diverse, fully-remote, cloud-native technology team; + Designed, developed and deployed a complete SOC-compliant Ag Trading Platform in 18 months, with a public release in August 2022; + Passed the SOC 2 audit in December 2022; + Designed and developed an innovative data protection architecture to ensure privacy of customer trading data; + Supported dynamic data science operations using machine learning and predictive modeling to provide accurate projections of barge river traffic, demurrage charges, and fleeting area hold times; + Developed APIs to support integration with the top Ag industry ERP systems; + Prototyped an agent-based model to simulate the entire Mississippi river barge traffic system, including inland grain elevators, barge traffic, fleeting areas and export grain elevators; and, + Prototyped an innovative, blockchain-based platform to support DeFi capitalization of Ag markets. Hired in 2008 to revive a struggling data warehousing project. My role was continually expanded during my tenure to include leading Humana Military's Cloud Strategy, GovCloud Architecture, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Release Management and Database Support. Highlights include: + Led initiatives to establish cloud-based capabilities and migrate critical systems and platforms to a FedRAMP Impact Level 4 (DoD) Azure GovCloud instance; + Successfully bid on two TRICARE contracts worth $24 billion (2012 – 2017) and $46 billion (2018 – present) respectively; + Established a close, trusted relationship with the DoD/Defense Health Agency leadership, which led to multiple opportunities to participate in pilot projects to assess varying methods of delivering and optimizing healthcare delivery; + Managed production releases, job scheduling and security for 1,200 SQL Server database instances across hundreds of virtual database servers and data warehousing appliances; + Supported over 3,000 secure inbound/outbound external data interfaces with government agencies, partners, customers, regulatory agencies, vendors and other authorized third parties; + Achieved breakthrough performance improvements for data warehousing and analytics by implementing one of the country’s first Microsoft / HP Parallel Data Warehouse appliances (PDW). The PDW employs Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) technology to process data hundreds of times faster than traditional database systems; + Implemented the first data de-identification (anonymization/pseudonymization) process to be approved by the DoD for use with TRICARE beneficiary data; + Created a Data Governance program to ensure the high-levels of data quality needed to support key business analysis and overall operational transparency; and, + Established the Business Intelligence, Data Visualization and Dashboarding platforms using Qlikview, Tableau, Microsoft’s PowerBI and SAS.

VERO was a startup Wall Street mortgage-backed securities firm. Joined VERO during the ramp-up of its first deal (Avanti) and built the systems VERO needed to launch and manage ABS/MBS securities. + Assets Under Management (AUM) went from $0 to nearly $2 billion; + Built systems to support the Structuring, Risk, Trading, Collateral and Credit functions within the firm using .NET and advanced statistical/mathematical modeling. Used both SQL Server 2005 and Oracle 10g for high-level data analysis and warehousing; + Designed and implemented the entire technical infrastructure, including office network, phones, remote offices connectivity, backup data centers, and databases; and, + Architected VERO’s systems to ensure data quality by collecting data into staging areas where data were parsed, cleaned and verified before being loaded into an enterprise data model.

Genscape was a startup company that permanently changed the energy trading industry by monitoring power plant generation and immediately notifying customers of power grid events. + Built one of the first global M2M/IoT networks, which supported 1,500 power line monitors deployed across the continental U.S. and 700 more in Northern Europe. Initially based on AMPS (analog cellular), the network was upgraded to digital cellular (GPRS, CDMA) as soon as the carriers could support it; + Designed and built an innovative, map-based power grid event notification system that quickly became the standard within the energy trading industry; + Implemented complete IP-based disaster recovery plan that extended out to all telecommunications and cellular network providers; + Implemented a comprehensive Data Quality Program to ensure the validity, accuracy and completeness of all sourced data, including data from Genscape’s proprietary network and third parties; and, + Evaluated the augmentation of the global cellular network with a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications system to allow expansion into the Middle East.

Evaluated the technology, restructured the organization, recruited appropriate talent and managed the transition to standard software development processes. Improvements in productivity, focus and software quality were visible in the first six months. + Customer complaints due to payroll errors dropped by over 50%; + Number of payroll packages that had to be re-run due to errors dropped by 80%; + Planned the migration of the core payroll processing system from PowerBuilder to a Java-based application framework; + Completely overhauled the technical infrastructure to ensure fault tolerance, adequate disaster recovery capabilities and 24x7 application availability; + Developed and implemented a web strategy, including web-based delivery of customer reports and payroll entry; + Drove projects to automate business processes. Reduced payroll operations costs by 30%; + Redefined the partnership between IT and the business, creating a framework from which the business could better evaluate potential projects and their ROI; + Created and staffed a Project Management Office and a Quality Assurance function.
