CurrentThe Regional Building Attorney is responsible for handling and overseeing all legal matters for Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, including, but not limited to: (i) advising the governing bodies and staff on specific legal issues or questions; (ii) advising the governing bodies and staff on public meetings and public records rules, regulations, and procedural requirements; (iii) advising the governing bodies and staff relative to matters that may be subject to negotiations; developing strategy for negotiations; and instructing negotiators; (iv) reviewing, negotiating, and drafting intergovernmental agreements, memoranda, contracts, and other agreements; (v) representing, managing, and overseeing the Department’s representation in litigation from inception to trial, as well as day-to-day case management; (vi) advising the governing bodies and staff on adopted code(s)’ related matters, including, but not limited to variance issues, licensing issues, permitting issues, plan review(s), appeals, and resulting due process, when necessary or requested by the governing bodies or staff; (vii) training board members in procedural and legal matters; (viii) reviewing or drafting amendments to the building code(s), as requested by the governing bodies or staff; advising the governing bodies or staff on statutory, jurisdictional, and local municipalities matters, including, but not limited to procedures for adoption of code(s); and drafting resolutions or ordinances thereto; (ix) reviewing or drafting governing documents, as requested by the governing bodies or staff; (x) investigating and overseeing personnel matters, when requested by staff; (xi) retaining, supporting, or assisting outside attorney(s) specific to special matters or matters representing a conflict; (xii) attending public meetings and special meetings; and holding executive sessions, when necessary; and (xiii) involvement in other legal or Department related issues..
