I have over 10 years of research experience at academic and industry settings . My research at Stanford focuses on (i) using next-generation sequencing to identify rare variants in patients with hereditary diseases (ii) using NGS and metadata to identify bacteria/fungi/viruses/allergens/chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis (basically, sequencing the air!) Previously, I was a PhD student in Microbiology and Immunology at University of Michigan, where I studied the assembly process of retroviruses (such as HIV-1 and HTLV-1).Competencies: next-generation sequencing, Python/R/Bash, Google cloud computing, bioinformatics, molecular biology, virology. Immigration status: US permanent resident

Postdoctoral FellowStanford University Jun 2015 - Mar 2018Palo Alto, CaMentor: Dr. Michael Snyder• Conduct meta-analysis of airborne particulates (exposomes) at DNA, RNA and proteomic levels- Perform DNA and RNA extractions, amplification and NGS library preps for over 300 samples - Develop a computational pipeline for annotating transcriptomics data (~2.9TB) using public databases (BLAST, Pfam, Gene Ontology) to study allergen exposures- Perform correlation and statistical analyses on the allergen exposures and various metadata (NASA data, GPS, season, individual activities and clinical data, US Census, etc) - Design and test probes for virus-enrichment targeted sequencing• Perform whole-exome sequencing in patients with rare diseases- Published 2 co-first and 3 middle author papers on this family genetics project - Perform whole-exome library preps and analysis on more than 130 patient samples- Work collaboratively with doctors and genetic counselors to solve various cases such as DAVID syndrome, congenital anosmia, oculomotor apraxia, epilepsy -
Phd Candidate (Microbiology And Immunology)University Of Michigan Sep 2010 - May 2015Ann Arbor, MiMentor: Dr. Akira Ono• Studied the roles of RNA and lipid in regulating HIV-1 Gag membrane binding during assembly- Published 5 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and presented work (oral and poster) at 6 international meetings.- Utilized various statistical imaging and biochemistry techniques to investigate HIV-1 pathogenesis in human primary macrophages - Designed high-throughput protein-membrane binding assay to examine the types and roles of cellular RNA in regulating viral protein (Gag) binding to host membrane. - Initiated a teamwork project to develop assays (cell-based, in-vitro, genetic engineering, and imaging) to characterize the role of RNA and lipid in regulating membrane binding of different retroviral- Mentored 2 undergraduate students for the completion of their Honor’s Thesis and co-mentored a graduate student for the completion of his Master’s degree thesis. -
