In May 2015, I graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education Social Studies as well as a middle level education minor. I completed a 16 week Student Teaching experience at Central High School in Grand Forks, ND, where I taught four 11th Grade U.S. history classes and one ninth grade Global Education class. After graduation, I was hired as a Special Education Teacher at an elementary school in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. I taught at this location for the 2015-2016 school year, specifically working with students who qualified in areas of DCD, OHD, ASD, and SLD. Through the same school district, I was hired as a Secondary Education Social Studies teacher and am now teaching at Grand Rapids High School. I am so lucky to be able to teach ninth grade Civics and tenth grade United States History to over 120 fun high school students!! As an educator, my goal is to engage students by making the material relatable to their everyday lives and facilitating the learning process as they practice 21st Century learning skills. I believe technology can be a beneficial tool for success in the classroom, if used correctly. Due to this, I incorporate a number of different, yet appropriate technological tools into my lessons in order to add variety and excitement into each day. My efforts in the classroom extend beyond academics. I strive to motivate my students to be the best they can be in every area of their life while instilling a sense of school pride and awareness of their community. I plan to continue my education, hoping to seek professional development opportunities in many different areas of study and obtain a Masters in Education degree. I also have a strong desire to some day teach abroad during summer breaks and immerse myself in the culture of other countries.
