Chemical Substitutions of the NASICON compound should not only change the site occupation but also the cell volume, i.e., the size of bottleneck. If the channels are too small or too big, the activation energy required to move ions from one site to next should be large. So, in the series of compounds LiZr 2-x Ti P3 O12 and LiZr2-xO12 (0 x 2), the conduction of Li+ ions can be maximum when the size of the conduction channel is approximately equal to the size of the Li+ ion, i.e., at some intermediate composition of x. So the above-mentioned series of compounds will be prepared by solid state reaction route and the X-ray characterization will be done. The sintered ceramic pellets will be tested for ionic conductivity at elevated temperatures.
