One of two students selected to be a summer research intern for the BioPsychology lab. Because of COVID-19, my research project and roles for this internship have changed slightly. I will complete analysis of the data collected for the Juvenile ST-HFD project for my Honor's thesis, will begin an archival research project investigating social compliance techniques used in political ads, and correspond with the lab's different sources of funding to manage funding for the following year. Additionally, I will present the results of this internship at the Annual Student Scholar's Presentation.

As a Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Fellow, I am funded by a Scranton Strategic Planning Initiative to pursue multidisciplinary research. I designed an experiment that investigates the molecular and behavioral effects of short-term (ST) high-fat diet (HFD) exposure in C57Bl/6 mice. I will work with Dr. Patrick T. Orr and Dr. Kate Stumpo on this project! Through this project, I have extensive experience with experimental design, literature surveys, data analysis, and advanced behavioral skills like glucose-tolerance tests, animal handling, IP and SQ injections, and timeline management. I also presented preliminary results at a fellowship meeting open to the Scranton science community. In addition to research experience and funding, Neuroscience Interdisciplinary fellows also attend talks by faculty of different Universities involved in neuroscience but from different fields.

Assist in animal and colony maintenance, help upperclassmen and my principal investigator conduct behavioral and molecular assays, conduct my own independent research. My current project investigates the affects of chronic acetaminophen administration on the motor behavior, anxiety, bone formation and resorption rates in developing C57Bl/6 mice. I recently received a grant to continue investigation in the project “Effects of chronic acetaminophen exposure on locomotion and anxiety in juvenile C57Bl/6 mice" for 2019-2020. I presented my poster at the annual SfN 2019 conference in Chicago, Illinois.I was also awarded the 2019 Multidisciplinary Neuroscience Strategic Initiative Fellowship to propose and investigate a multidisciplinary research project concerning the behavioral and molecular effects of short-term high-fat diets in C57Bl/6 mice.

As a MSTP Summer Scholar, I spent 10 weeks conducting research in the Cognitive Neurophysiology Laboratory led by Dr. Ed Freedman and Dr. John Foxe. I attended weekly professional biomedical seminars, participated in both group and individual MD-PhD career and application advising sessions, took preparatory MCAT classes, and shadowed a neuroimmunologist (Dr. Matt Bellizzi) in the Multiple Sclerosis clinic at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Managed cash register, stocked inventory, created positive and "sunny" customer interactions and experiences.

Wrote an IRB protocol, contributed to other IRB protocols, contributed content to a CME "Frost" article, researched extensively on hyperkalemia, PRES, pre-eclampsia, and post-operative cognitive decline. Shadowed different operations and procedures in the OR.

Visited patients in nursing homes and hospitals, kept patients company, read and interacted with patients, checked patients for signs of negligence or abuse.

Provided assistance in the ER, OR, and endoscopy departments, transported patients from the front door to waiting rooms, managed OR waiting rooms, and met families' needs and comforts.
