As a financial advisor for this firm, I mainly work determining their expenses, income, financial objectives, tax status, risk tolerance, or other information needed to develop a financial plan, guiding about financial plans and strategies, advising in investment planning, cash management, and other areas to help them reach financial objectives, analyzing financial data to develop strategies and goals, preparing or interpreting financial document summaries, investment performance reports, and income projections, as well as implementing financial plans.

As President of the Board of Director of a Public Development Bank, I was co-responsible of the administration of the bank, therefore defining commercial strategies to reach specific targets, improving services, embodying technology to certain process in order to take better credit decisions, taking care of financial stability of the bank as well, creating and approving procedures, approving credit lines, etc. Furthermore, since the bank owns some other companies in sector like commercial banking, insurance, stock and bond market, etc. , I had also to check their well-functioning on a regular basis.

As a member of the Board of Director of an international Development Bank, I had to analyze financing proposals, and to approve or deny them. Similarly, the Board of Directors had to analyze and approve financial statements of the bank, its business plan, and new procedures.

I served as the Local Competition Authority in one of the most important regions in Ecuador based on its economic relevance for the country -Guayaquil, Duran y Samborondon-. Hence, under my administration I had to direct the cases that were initiated against firms due to potential violations against the Ecuadorian Antitrust Law. Once information was collected and analyze, it was determined whether the case should continue or be archived.

As an advisor attached to Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil (CCG) about customs issues, I basically attended any type of inquiry related to this topic, independent if requests were operational or legal ones.

At the Ecuadorian Customs (Aduana del Ecuador) I served in different positions. The position with the largest duration was as General Director of Intervention and Risk Management. Here I handled four departments. Three of them were related with ex-post control of import and export processes, whereby means of conducting auditing procedures it could be determined frauds and similar situations. Besides of this, I was also leading the risk analysis department. In this area, mathematical models were created for each type of risk, such that merchandise was assigned a specific type of control to check consistency between declaration and its content. During this time, the current risk management system of the Ecuadorian Customs was designed and developed.

As an advisor attached to Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Guayaquil (PAG), on the most important ports of Ecuador by that time, I used to conduct financial analysis about the concessions that hold the PAG. Mainly, reviewing operational and financial information from the ports under control to check whether the payoff of its royalties is consistent with the information provided. Besides of these, I had to provide economic and financial advice about new projects that the PAG was willing to initiate.

Statistics for Business

At the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of Ecuador I had to work with the taxpayers database in order to design control plans, to define their KPI´s, to monitor them, as well to evaluate these plans based on the objectives of the organization. Besides of this, I had to design mathematical and statistical procedures to improve taxpayer’s selection method for auditing process, to estimate future aggregate and type-specific tax collections, to generate clusters of taxpayers and to determine unusual account-behavior of taxpayers within clusters to find control spaces.
