Criminalistics Section : Chemistry UnitPerforms "General Unknown Analysis" in which evidentiary materials are characterized or compared with the use of instrumental techniques (GC-MS, FTIR, XRD, XRF) and other chemical and physical tests. Criminalistics Section: Trace UnitPerforms Gunshot Residue Analysis Examines physical evidence in order to collect and safeguard trace evidence. Performs DNA collection.Examines questioned and known broken items for the presence of a physical match. Trained in basic microscopy and photography. Criminalistics Section: Case Management:Reviewed case information and coordinated with laboratory supervisors and external customers to ensure that all probative analyses were performed as necessary and in an appropriate time frame and sequence.Controlled Substances Analysis Section:Analyzes forensic evidence for the possible presence of controlled substances utilizing chemical color tests, microscopy, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and thin layer chromatography (TLC). Interprets results and prepares laboratory reports in the laboratory information management system (LIMS). Controlled Substances Analysis Section: Instrument Monitor: Evaluated GC-MS data in terms of quality control acceptance criteria. Monitors instrumental performance, and carries out basic maintenance as needed. Controlled Substances Analysis Section: Case Management: Collected and interpreted data pertinent to the efficiency and caseload of the section, devised new measures of efficiency, and suggested improvements to be implemented. Communicated with laboratory customers in the NYPD and District Attorneys’ offices.Training and Professional Development:Trained Controlled Substance Section and Criminalistics Section analysts in the theory of Raman Spectroscopy.Quality Assurance:Participated in the planning and/or execution of method validation projects for qualitative analysis.

Also performed computer-design work, and assisted in the preparation for and running of the 21st annual Arnold Markle Symposium.
