For this company I am part of a maintenance team that looks after large communal gardens in the retirement home sector. As garden manager I am given charge of sites myself, whereby I have to lay out tasks that need to be completed within a time frame and ensure they are completed to a high standard. Further to the responsibility of the gardens I must maintain the equipment dedicated to the company vehicle I am trusted with; this includes ensuring I have the right tools to complete a job prior to arrival and making sure all the equipment can be operated safely. This is often very physical but interesting work, as horticulture crosses the spectrum of chemistry and biology which are two disciplines that particularly draw my interest.

As part of this role I was required to look after the shop on my own and serve customers in a friendly and efficient manner. I also managed stock control, customer accounts and updating the ledgers on a monthly basis. I was also a main keyholder.

I joined Rushfields as a seasonal sales assistant in April 2016. In September of that year I was offered a place as a permanent weekend retail assistant. In this job I worked mostly on the tills and in the plant area, but also as part of the bedding nursery. On the tills I was required to serve customers in a friendly and efficient manner, solve account-based problems and sometimes train new staff to use the till equipment. When in the plant area I would work as part of a team to handle/maintain stock, help customers with their problems e.g knowledge about a plant or other items available and to change layouts and merchandise stock. Lastly as part of my work in the nursery I would help a small team plant 60,000 plug plants, for sale in the Garden Centre.
