Senior tutor in the PSU CS Lounge. This was a 20+ hour a week position focused on helping undergrad students understand coursework and complete coding assignments. It involved teaching quality coding practices, debugging techniques and helping students get “unstuck” when dealing with difficult problems. The position required a broad understanding of the PSU CS curriculum, expertise in multiple programming languages, problem solving skills, and an ability to communicate with and calm stressed out students (especially around finals week). It also called for training junior tutors and ensuring that the lounge was maintained as an environment conducive to getting work done. In this role I was able to help many students become better engineers and at the same time I learned to perceive engineering from multiple points of view, as well as developing an ability to very quickly read and interpret code written by others. Feedback from students and PSU staff indicated that I was very successful in tutoring the 50+ students I helped in this role.

In charge of analyzing and grading all C++ coding assignments for CS163. This involved hundreds of reviews for more than 50 students over the course of two semesters. This was a challenging assignment that required more than comparing answers to a checklist, as much of the work involved code and conceptual interpretations and providing educational feedback, as well as executing submitted code and applying tools such as gdb, valgrind, and cppcheck to ensure quality and correctness. In order to remove some of the grading subjectivity a spreadsheet was developed that broke down assignments by concept and problem solving approach so that more quantifiable feedback could be provided. Feedback from students and instructors indicated a strong appreciation for the diligence, timeliness, and fairness that was applied in the grading process.

Communicated with clients to ensure reception of correct services. Performed setup, upgrade, and repair services on a wide variety of supported software and hardware. Used database software and paperwork to fully document each and every service order. Trained fellow employees on computer services, opening and closing duties, proper usage of repair tracking software, and providing quality customer service.

Significant projects include imaging and deploying new computer lab hardware, wiring and configuring new building networks, providing students with correct hardware and software on a per lab assignment basis, as well as maintaining district computer labs, networks, and services.
