• Established a novel Markov process model for protein evolution based on population genetics that outperforms all known models. • REU program: Mentored 3 undergraduate students on a research project to investigate codon usage bias in protein translation with a Bayesian approach. Built a mechanistic model and taught the students to program the model in R.• Workshop at Ohio State University: Led a group of 6 graduate students to reconstruct the evolutionary history of squirrels using Markov models of molecular evolution and Bayesian phylogenetics.
