Master thesis:The aim of the research was to enhance mass transfer in membrane-microreactors with slip flow induced by gas pockets.The hypothesis of enhanced mass transfer was first proved by numerical simulations (2D as well as 3D).As a second step the numerical results were experimentally validated.

Optimizing the HALEX (Halogen Exchange process) at Chemtura location Ankerweg, AmsterdamThe aim of this project was to achieve a higher utilization rate of the high pressure reactor. In order to achieve this goal two paths which could possibly lead to a higher utilization rate where conducted simultaneously:1. Improving the current HALEX process to meet the demands of external client(s)2. Investigation of a new HALEX processPath 1As an intermediate step in the production route of pesticides for crop protection at Chemtura Ankerweg an Halogen exchange reaction is required. This intermediate product can also be sold to external clients. One of these external clients demanded a higher purity than the standard for internal use. With the aid of the 6-sigma method, several important parameters where obtained and varied. After a statistical analyses and some rifle shot studies, the demand on purity was met.Path 2The implantation of a new HALEX process has been researched by pilot plant studies. In order to see if this process is economical feasible. Unfortunately, the conclusion from this research was that at that point implementation would not be feasible.
