    E-field Assisted Assembly of Colloidal Particles into Ordered Nonclose-Packed Arrays• Assembled colloidal particles into ordered nonclose-packed array under alternating current (AC) electric field• Fixed the pattern by a sequence of DC pulses and monitored solvent evaporation process.• Programmed MATLAB scripts to track particles during the fixation process.• Modeled the vertical movement of colloids with numerical simulation and compared with the experiment results.• Mentored two research experience undergraduate (REU) students to further investigate the assembly of particles at the liquid-liquid (e.g., water-oil) interface.Smart Motor for Selective Cell Transportation• Built a MATLAB control magnetic field setup to steer the micro size motor for arbitrarily trajectory.• Fabricated quadripolar electrodes through lithography and thin film deposition for particles/cells polarizability measurement.• Programmed MATLAB scripts to analyze particle location and orientation from videos.Functionalized NP as Novel AntiAgglomerants for Hydrates• Synthesized and modified colloid particles (e.g., magnetic cubes, silica particles) for “Pickering” emulsion formation.• Built a cooling cell for in situ imaging of the hydrate agglomeration formation.• Characterized the contact angle of individual modified colloid particle through a novel interface stabilization method.• Built rapid cooling and heating cell with temperature and pressure data acquisition via Python & multiple DAQ cards for parti-cle kinetic inhibitor investigation.Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) substrate fabrication• Synthesized Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) particles with rough surface.• Fabricated colloidal particle monolayer via flowing coating.• Deposited thin gold or silver film via thermal evaporation or sputtering respectively.• Characterized thin film sample morphology and optical property.• Raman detection of ultra-low chemical with the fabricated samples.
