I ensured project planning was linked into the local operations teams, lead both internal and external governance across numerous organisational levels and across a wide assortment of topics outside my project management background. -
Programme ControllerRolls-Royce Sep 2018 - Mar 2019Derby, United KingdomThird secondment at Rolls-Royce as the Lead Programme Controller on the Trent XWB-84 EP NPI Programme. This role sat reporting to the Programme Executive, reviewing the overall programme status vs strategy, while supporting key project governance and subsystem Project Management personnel. The first key programme governance I supported was the project change meeting (DRM) with the Change Control Manager. This meeting was a go-stop gate for our product solutions and brought together, engineer configuration management and supply chain demand into the standard project deliverables and outputs. While in role, I automated population of agendas using P6 and getting all Project Managers to tag their plans with the specific gates. This allowed me to plan the quorate time way ahead of schedule and ensure adequate time to review work packages during surge weeks.The second item of key programme governance was maintaining the level 3 Tiered Visual Performance Management (TVPM) board that all the senior managers of the programme attend on a daily basis. Here I highlighted blockers and high level interdependencies of the overall integrated master schedule (IMS) to allow the leadership to make decisions. Also with my experience of TVPM in EP3+, I supported the detailed rollout with TVPM into the subsystem teams, coaching teams on how to use this new way of working and its benefits, leading to marked improvement in milestone adherence. Lastly I lead a small team of graduate engineers on a short project to identify cost saving initiatives out of 500 ideas. Here I lead quickly and efficiently, suggesting a scoring metric which reduced the 500 to 2 ideas that could have an impact. As a team we drafted a proposal for these initiatives which had a combined saving of £3.5 million, which was taken forward by the Cost Team. -
Ipt Lead & Programme ControllerRolls-Royce Mar 2018 - Sep 2018Derby, United KingdomSecond secondment as a Integrated Project Team Lead (IPTL) and Lead Programme Controller on the Trent 900 EP3+ Engine Development Programme. A dual role supporting general governance (programme controller) while leading and delivering packages of work for the HPC OGV within the Hot End subsystem.As the IPTL for the HPC OGV, I lead a multi-site, multi-national team, between Derby (UK) and Bangalore (India), ensuring clear communication throughout while integrating design, manufacturing, supply chain and specialists to deliver a complete solution for the development engine. This package of work allowed numerous units and configurations or instrumentation to be installed within the hottest part of the engine for testing, which required me to bring engineering teams together to develop a integrated plan within P6 and lead the team through all the change control gates for buy off. This package of work was successfully enacted with no impact in the overall master schedule and I planned out the Flying Test Bed (FTB) version of this solution which delivered all milestones within Part of the governance, I supported the Integrated Master Scheduler to ensure all P6 plans for EP3+ Programme were maintained to the set standard and provide support to plan owners, picking up key skills in project planning and the minimum standard required to have a successful plan. Alongside this I also learnt key aspects in Tier Visual Performance Management (TVPM) a Rolls-Royce flavour on AgilePM.Lastly, as part of the celebration event for the Trent 900s 100th engine delivery, I lead and delivered a small communications piece where I interviewed a Technical Pilot from Emirates, on the power of Trent 900, the A380 and the great collaboration between Airline and Engine Manufacturer. -

This involved creating a method to capture & track all costs incurred by the team, assisting in budget control, Earned Value Management and investment decisions. This also included helping to draft Indirect Purchase Orders for contractors and being a point of contact for their invoicing. Secondary focus was ensure day-to-day progression on the project and developing ways of tracking project implementation maturity once deployed across the business. Alongside this, myself and a fellow Project Management apprentice lead and delivered an event for the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA), showing the vast improvements made by the business through deployed ways of working. This required us to coordinate a group of managers across the site, enabling them to showcase their work in a concise manner and provide tours of the manufacturing areas to the IPA. -
