Our mission is to build community where families who have a child with cancer can build resilience and share delight.

The mission of Side-by-Side is sharing laughter, rest, and togetherness with families who have a seriously ill child in treatment at Seattle Children's Hospital. We provide relational support through a variety of life-changing programs, including::: A week-long summer camp and three-day winter weekend for families who have a child with cancer.:: Weekly volunteer teams who serve dinner and host activities at Seattle's Ronald McDonald House.:: Volunteer pairs who spend time each week with kids whose families have relocated to Seattle for medical treatment.:: Side-by-Side preschool for kids age 3-5 hosted at the Ronald McDonald House three days per week.My responsibilities as Director include::: Development, implementation, and coordination of creative and effective support programs serving 60-70 families each year who have a seriously ill child. :: Oversight of $450,000 annual budget and cultivation of a growing donor base through innovative and meaningful fundraising events and giving campaigns.:: Oversight of thoughtful recruitment, training, supervision, and professional development for five staff members and 250+ annual volunteers. :: Development and oversight of strategic communication plan promoting the work of Side-by-Side to various stakeholders including volunteers, donors, families, and local care providers.:: Development and on-going cultivation of strategic and collaborative relationships with professionals from the local healthcare community and other non-profit organizations serving similar populations, including Seattle Children's Hospital, Seattle's Ronald McDonald House, The Hutch School, The Goodtimes Project, The Austen Everett Foundation, Make-a-Wish, Camp Agape, Footprints of Fight, and many others.

:: Responsible for the recruitment of graduating high school seniors across Vancouver, British Columbia to enroll a class of approximately 40 new students each year. :: Met regularly with students and parent for admission interviews and campus tours, made promotional visits to high schools around the city, managed the applicant database, planned and coordinated campus visit events, and supervised a team of student ambassadors.

Successfully completed 12-week unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at VGH. Participated as active member of interdisciplinary medical care team creating collaborative strategies for holistic patient care on assigned hospital units, including Respiratory, Neurology, and Palliative Care.

Provided confidential advocacy and assistance to students in dispute with UBC faculty or administration. Liaised with UBC staff and student senate regarding disciplinary committees and academic integrity issues. Maintained high level of confidentiality and kept meticulous records of student interactions.

:: Coordinated the various services of a residence hall housing 330 students, including student supervision and advocacy, crisis response, facility maintenance, student and family grievances, and administrative responsibilities.:: Managed, supervised, trained, and evaluated a staff of ten paid student Peer Advisors; advised six-member volunteer Hall Council.:: Promoted appropriate life choices for students in the hall; held students accountable to the University’s behavioral code of conduct; administered the judicial process for students in violation of policies.:: Proactively identified student needs; provided counsel and support; connected students with appropriate resources across campus and beyond.:: Spearheaded creation of experiential exhibit for the SPU community about racial reconciliation and white privilege.

:: Managed strategic recruiting efforts to enroll prospective students who fit SPU’s mission and requirements.:: Planned and implemented recruiting events, post-secondary education fairs, high school and church visits.:: Advised students and parents through personal relationships and thoughtful communication.:: Received 2005 Regional Service Award from the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals.
