My research group concentrates on translational research in pediatric solid tumors with a focus on Neuroblastoma and Rhabdomyosarcoma. Basic molecular genetic research is used as a starting point and we aim at implementation of our research in precision medicine programs. Currently our group consists of 2 postdocs, 4 PhDs and 4 technicians. We have vacancies for 3 PhD students.

The chair ‘Precision medicine in pediatric cancer’, hosted by the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Faculty of Science, Utrecht University (UU)), at the division of Pharmaceutics, will aim to improve the treatment for childhood cancer by creating pediatric cancer specific personalized treatment options. Pivotal is the interaction between two expertise centers at the Utrecht Science Park. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is bridging the gap between basic chemical/biological research and clinical implementation of medicine, while the Princess Maxima Center is one of the world leading centers in pediatric oncology and aiming at curation of all children with cancer. Improving the interaction between these two top institutes will lead to identification and validation of specific interventions for pediatric cancer.
Amc Dept Of Oncogenomics
Leading a research group of 8 at the department of Oncogenomics at the AMC. The group focus is on identification of potential new therapeutic targets for neuroblastoma and efficient validation of targeted compounds. We have used high throughput analysis and a variety of molecular biological techniques to identify multiple new oncogenes and aberrations in neuroblastoma. The aim of our research group is to set up an evidence based personalized medicine approach for neuroblastoma patients and to use this as a blue print for other pediatric tumor types.
