Worked on client engineering team to design, build, & productionize initial version of automated client onboarding backend.

Worked on and managed various software projects in the areas of pricing, billing, logistics, marketing, and infrastructure.Created token-based authentication scheme, experiment framework, publish/subscribe system, session tracking service, event logging service, and many smaller projects.Was part of moving from a monolith server to a service-oriented architecture with microservices.Worked mostly in Python/Django, and also in SQL, ES6 Javascript, React, and other technologies as needed.Contributor to the infrastructure team and used tools such as ansible and terraform to manage software deployments on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform.Started out as individual contributor but was made tech lead and engineering manager, currently responsible for mentoring and managing mid-level team members.

Built a variety of experimental tools and prototypes as the company went through several early-stage pivots.Developed various ecommerce integrations and tooling for automatic campaign management and conversion tracking. Built specific integrations with Shopify, Segment, Lightspeed POS, Amazon Merchant Services, and the Amazon Affiliate program.Set up an iOS app prototype with data populated through a pipeline with the firebase service with a Python/Django backend.Built a Google trends scraping tool as part of a data pipeline for company valuation models.Created a competitive intelligence data collection framework that leveraged Tor and HTTP proxy technologies.

Founded and ran company which built local temporal business directory. Was a solo founder and solely responsible for all aspects of the business. Employed and managed three co-op students.Built a comprehensive business directory, with a data ingestion pipeline that collected data from internet scraping, phone call reports, end user reports, and the municipalities to compile a comprehensive directory of all businesses in Waterloo and their up-to-date hours of operation.Created and productionized a Python/Django server which served data to the apps and web from the directory.Made a rudimentary call agent survey tool in Python/Django for phone agents to input local business data and receive instructions on which calls to make. Hired and managed a team of six remote contractors in the Philippines, who used this system to call businesses and input their information, which was then ingested into our directory.Created several marketing campaigns for the app, including an SEO campaign and novel “download cards” which were business cards with embedded NFC technology that were conversion tracked.

Joined the company of seven as CTO and cofounder. Company was B2B SaaS and sold a submission and decision management platform as the main product.Changed the company and product vision from submission management platform to automatic workflow integration tools.Moved the company from a PHP base to Python/Django, and began development on new product lines branching out into the broader workflow management space.

Worked on building experimental ads products, such as entity-based targeting and automatic generation of ad creatives using product feeds, in C++ and Java.Created a pipeline to ingest product data from merchants, transform it into ad creatives, and load it into the ad platform automatically.Trained machine learning models to adjust ad campaign parameters to account for observed differences in this type of ad, and created system for hot-loading these prediction models directly into the ad serving system to adjust bids in real time.Filed a patent application for a new type of auction, where the final bids entered into the auction could formulaically be determined as a function of disparate input bids.Did a six month rotation working in site reliability eng-ops role for production security team. Duties included managing the key service and responding to distributed denial-of-service attacks on an on-call basis.

Worked on a team to redesign and rewrite main HTTP frontend server for display network ad serving, view and click tracking for better performance and extensibility. This server was responsible for handling well over one billion requests per day. Helped with launching the new service and migrating traffic. Worked in C++ using proprietary Google technologies. Officially promoted.Implemented global data structures within the service that could be configured at compile time and were optimized to keep the size of the binary low while being safe for concurrent access by many threads.
