I am Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at Loughborough University (effective Nov 2024). The School is home to a vibrant and diverse community of scholars committed to understanding and tackling societal problems.My Research:I am a world-leading medical sociologist specialising in the changing organisation and governance of health care systems. My research foregrounds the dynamics of politics and power in the implementation of strategic change and the impact of change for professional practices, cultures and interests.I have delivered a large portfolio of research programmes funded by the likes of the ESRC, NIHR, British Academy, and The Health Foundation. These studies have contributed to many reform agendas, including:* Patient Safety & Organisational Learning* Quality Assurance & Risk Management* Lean Thinking & Service Redesign* Technological Innovation* Leadership Education & Development* Major System ChangeI am elected Fellow of Academy of Social Science and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.I have held positions at University of Cambridge, University of Gothenburg, University of Nottingham and University of Manchester, and have longstanding collaborations with researchers at University of Toronto and University of California, Berkeley.
