I received my master's degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in the Department of Horticulture & Landscape Architecture in 2021. My research involved management practices of high-CBD hemp in outdoor organic systems, including assessment of common row cover materials to block hemp pollen and chemistry changes related to higher or lower seed content of CBD flower, effects of defoliating plant injury on cannabinoid content, and assessment of varying amounts of organic nitrogen fertilizer on plant growth and cannabinoid content. Additional research includes assessment of solvent extractions using ethanol, isopropanol, and supercritical CO2 to determine differences in extracted compounds between solvents. Our projects utilized UPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and DART-MS. I transitioned to studying cannabis cultivation and cannabis chemistry after 7 years in clinical psychology research focusing on substance use disorders, ADHD, and mood disorders, as well as acute and long-term cannabis consumption. Additional interests include cannabinoid-related strategies to achieve substance abuse harm reduction, social justice initiatives involving federal drug policy reform, and spreading awareness around opportunities for expungement for individuals convicted of nonviolent drug felonies related to possession of cannabis.

Graduate Research AssistantColorado State University Jun 2019 - Dec 2022Fort Collins, Colorado AreaGraduate student in the lab of Dr. Jessica Prenni in the Department of Horticulture studying hemp metabolomics.I successfully defended my master's thesis in the fall semester of 2021 in the lab of Dr. Jessica Prenni at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. My master's thesis included two chapters; chapter 1 consisted of an extensive literature review of cannabis and it's secondary metabolites, and chapter 2 was the field-based horticultural research project that I managed at CSU's organic research farm (ARDEC South) in 2019, and repeated in 2020.This project assessed the efficacy of three common horticultural row cover materials for excluding the wind-borne pollen of male cannabis plants from fertilizing the exclusively-female high-CBD hemp plants when they are cultivated in close proximity to male plants, and therefore in close proximity to cannabis pollen. When female cannabis plants (either high-CBD hemp or high-THC marijuana) are pollinated by male plants (found in hemp fields where hempseed is the intended commodity, as opposed to cannabinoids) the female high-CBD hemp flowers will contain seeds as a result.Hops are in the same family as cannabis, Cannabaceae. When the flowers of the exclusively-female hop cones are pollinated with the pollen from male hop flowers, the hops will contain seeds. This is undesirable outside of a breeding context because the flavorful secondary metabolites that are produced in the trichomes of the hops are the commodity in this situation, just as the secondary metabolites of cannabis (cannabinoids, and possibly others such as terpenes, terpenoids, flavonoids, etc.) are the commodity when cultivating high-CBD hemp and high-THC marijuana cultivars. -
Professional Research AssistantUniversity Of Colorado Boulder Nov 2017 - Mar 2019Boulder, ColoradoObservational studies conducted at CUChange (The Center for Health and Addiction: Neuroscience, Genes, and Environment) on the effects of cannabis with varying ratios of THC and CBD in participants with either chronic low back pain (PRISM study) or anxiety (OASIS study). I also worked on the COSMIC and ACED studies. Responsibilities included obtaining informed consent, data management, device maintenance, and recruitment. This study involves administering cognitive assessments, motor tasks, and collecting blood samples before and after a participant has used either cannabis flower or cannabis edibles. We utilized a mobile pharmaceutical lab to conduct these studies. REDCap was used for data collection. I worked on four studies in total: Dr. Kent Hutchison's study COSMIC: Cannabis Observational Study on Mood, Inflammation, and Cognition; and three studies with Dr. Cinnamon Bidwell; ACED: Acute Cognitive Effects of Dabbing, PRISM: Observational Study of Cannabis and Pain, and OASIS: Observational Anxiety Study on Inflammation and Stress. -
