Corporate Website (www.autozone.com)Served as project lead to architect new front-end user interface for corporate website. Project required a complete re- factoring of existing non W3C compliant code base to comply with web standards. HTML markup in JSP code was re- written to validate to an XHTML 1.0 Transitional doctype. Usage of “id” and “class” attributes is being analyzed and corrected to improve semantic readability of the markup. All in-line and global CSS was replaced with CSS that is segmented and properly targets areas to be styled with descendant selectors without affecting other areas of the site. Global procedural-based javascript was replaced with object-oriented, namespace-based javascript, eliminating conflicts. In addition, site performance was enhanced by replacing form POSTs with AJAX requests when possible to eliminate unnecessary page refreshes. Project was used to simultaneously train team of developers on standards-based web development. When completed, 90% of the front-end code base will be new. Corporate Website (www.merrymaids.com)Architected and developed new customer-facing corporate website for Merry Maids. Primary focus of site is to provide information about Merry Maids home cleaning services. Site allows visitors to research Merry Maids service, search for service in their area, securely purchase gift cards, and request an in-home cleaning estimate through a lead form. Site has many integration points into other applications. Primarily, leads submitted through the “Request a Cleaning” form are entered into a RightNow Technologies CRM application using an XML API over HTTP. Site has ~500 “localized” pages representing individual Merry Maids offices. Local content can be customized by the franchisees using predefined templates through a series of admin screens. Site is coded using web standards as recommended by the W3C, validates to an XHTML 1.0 Transitional doctype, and uses many SEO and URL tracking techniques. All front-end code is written manually, without the aid of visual editors. Technologies used: PHP, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, XML, PostgreSQL database, and web services (SOAP). Deployed to Apache.
