Tv Control Room Automation Expert - Ross Overdrive Transition

Sky

Sky Studios, London, Uk

At Sky, I was one of the most experienced Automation Specialists in the UK. I was deeply involved in a massive $60 million project tasked with implementing a transition from traditional control rooms to Ross Overdrive Automation in Sky News’ 24-hour news channel and Sky Sports News’ 18-hour news channel. This also included moving Sky News to another building, changing brands of video servers, changing graphics engines and workflows, changing the newsroom computer system, and nearly every other element of production. My role included helping to develop new and enhanced workflows for Directors, Producers, Graphics Designers, and all other control room and studio personnel. This involved documenting and studying all current and anticipated program needs, process maps, and scenarios; then designing workflows and automation tools to address each of those needs. I helped lead the team in building templates, layouts, and other automation processes to achieve the best functionality, flexibility, efficiency, and ergonomics. I worked closely with other Automation Specialists, Senior Directors, Project Managers, Department Managers, and Producers to develop training plans for all necessary personnel. We also devised comprehensive testing, rehearsal, and implementation plans; and follow through by documenting, debriefing, and reevaluating those plans.
