Joel is an executive creative leader with over two decades’ of multidisciplinary design experience. Throughout his career, Joel’s work has played at the emergent edge of technology, design, and story.As Head of Creative Content and Experiences for Magic Leap, Joel is currently exploring the frontiers of augmented reality, and spatial design. His work here seeks to amplify human ability with wearable technology.Prior to his present role, Joel served as Chief Creative Officer of Second Story — a pioneering group blending physical and digital environments. Here, Joel spent nearly a decade designing interactive spaces like museum exhibits, immersive venues, experiential events, and more. Previously, Joel held design leadership roles in emerging technology at agencies like Razorfish and SapientNitro. His work has a global presence with projects spanning across Europe, Australia, the U.S. and Canada. Joel’s work has been recognized for design excellence by the likes of One Show, The Webby Awards, FastCo Innovation by Design, Red Dot, HOW International Design, SEGD Global Design awards, IxDA, and The American Alliance of Museums. He was named top 20 people to watch in 2020 by Graphic Design USA.His work has been featured by premier publications including Fast Company, Wired, Forbes, and Communication Arts. Joel is a regular speaker at forums like Experiential Marketing Summit, Museum Next, NYCxDesign, AIA, AWE, FITC, and AIGA. With one foot in the commercial design world, the other is firmly rooted in regenerative design and development — helping to reimagine our relationship to Earth and to the more-than-human world. Joel serves on the sustainable design committee for SEGD (Society of Experiential Graphic Design) and is a fellow at the RSA (Royal Society of Arts).He is a graduate of The Regenerative Practitioner program at Regenesis Institute and is a certified Prosocial facilitator. He has also studied under the Animas Valley Institute.Joel is co-founder and executive producer of the Outside In podcast — which explores the inner and outer work of transformative design.He has been a contributor to organizations such as Earth Regenerators, Local Futures, and Awakening Lands and is an advisory board member of Our Hidden Worlds, an immersive entertainment attraction for ocean conservation.
