About João L. A. De Melo
João L. A. de Melo was born in Pico island, Azores-Portugal. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT-UNL), Lisbon, Portugal, in 2008 and 2010, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in continuous-time sigma-delta modulators (ΔΣMs) using passive RC integrators from FCT-UNL in 2017. From 2002 to 2004, he was a Team Coordinator of sound installations and an Analyst of sound systems with Audium S.A., Portugal. From 2015 to 2016, he was with the Center for Technology and Systems, Instituto de Desenvolvimento de Novas Tecnologias, a research institute, working for a European project (PROTEUS) on the design of low-power ΔΣMs for IoT sensors interfaces. In 2016, he joined S3 Semiconductors (which was acquired by Adesto Technologies in 2018 and then by Dialog Semiconductors in 2020), Lisbon, where he worked mainly in CT ΔΣMs. In 2020, he joined the microelectronics group at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, where he is currently working on the design of radiation-tolerant particle detectors and readout ICs for high-energy physics experiments. He has published several papers in international journals and leading IEEE conferences. His main research interests include energy and area efficient amplifiers-less ΔΣM, high-speed SerDes, radiation-tolerant particle detectors, and optimization methodologies based on genetic algorithms.
