About Jamil L.
My career in animation began upon graduating from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota Florida, where I found myself at Sony Imageworks; a starry eyed junior animator working on the animated feature film “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”. Working on that film gave me the opportunity to be a sponge soaking up and learning the craft from my idol artists and animators. I felt that I had truly made it, a kid from Syria living the dream of animating in California. My passion and excitement did not go unnoticed, and two years later my next stop would be at Moonbot Studios to take on the role of the Animation Supervisor on the animated short film titled “The Fantastic Flying Books Of Mr. Morris Lessmore”. I managed a team of fresh animators and the film went on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film that year. There was only one place to go from there. After spending a few years being noticed as the foreigner in every setting in the deep south, I made the move to New York City, where nobody stands out. I fit right in. Working mostly freelance on commercials, video games cinematics, and TV pilots for studios like Psyop, Hornet, and MPC. In 2015, inspired by the late George Carlin’s routine, I released “Dirty Laundry Day”, a film I wrote, directed, and animated that addresses the dark side of change. The film went on to collect a couple of Best Animated film awards and titles in multiple independent and mainstream film festivals. Arriving in Montreal in the fall of 2018, I went back into the feature film animation world. I worked on titles such as “Scoob!” “Rumble” and “Back to the Outback”. I love working under tight deadlines, I draw inspiration from the versatile visual styles that differ from one project to another, and I thrive in the small team environment, but most of all l love the problem solving part of short productions. That’s why I made my move to ReelFXs’ newly formed, real-time based episodic division where I was the Animation Supervisor for the studios’ first fully real-time rendered show titled “Super Giant Robots Brothers” for Netflix.
