Professor Of Cognitive Linguistics
CurrentCurrent research domains include : cognitive linguistics - pragmatics - gesture studies - dance and movement theory - experiential and embodied approaches to learning - language pedagogy. I run "language and gesture" workshops with professional dancer-choreographers, using body motion (a) to explore linguistic structure and meanings (b) to research into the form and function of spontaneous gestural action in speech (c) to perform thought and stage socio-cognitive activity. As deputy chancellor of my university I was crucially involved in designing language courses, developing adult learning, and assessing language skills through certification (2019-2012).
