About Jesper Larsen
With my background in computer science and operations research I am fascinated by the multitude of real life problems that can be solved or supported by computers and algorithms. In my research in Operations Research and Business Analytics I have a focus on delivering research based solutions as the basis of IT-based decision support tools. For me it is important that the problems I try to solve are based on real-life challenges.I have worked on many industry-related problems in collaboration with industry partners in areas like health care, airlines, airports and railway companies and shipping.In my work more oriented towards theory I try to look at developing basic solution approaches that can afterwards improve the methods we use to solve the critical and complex real-life challenges we face.Beside my research I am also interested in improving the education we give our Engineering students. I have been a director for an MSc programme for a number of year and alsp played a major role in the work that has lead the Technical University of Denmark to start a new BSc in Engineering in Strategic Analysis and Systems Design, a program that will take our engineering students into the world of analytics in a strong and coherent program.I have participated in consultancy work investigating possibilities of implementing decision support tools and planning methods and specifying their potential.In 2017 I received the Hedorf prize for execellence in transport research.
