http://justinlascellemustbestopped.com/I like a challenge. When I was younger, I moved around a lot and learned how to connect with people quickly by drawing pictures and singing songs. My mother likes to remind me that when other kids were singing “Itsy Bitsy Spider” for kindergarten show-and-tell, I was belting out “Born to Be Wild.” I don’t think I’ve ever grown out of this. In 2012, I packed everything I owned into my truck to fulfill a dream of working in Hollywood. I started as a graphic designer for RED Digital Cinema’s web team. A year and a half later formed the company’s first internal creative services team, codenamed PROPAGANDA. For the next year and a half, my team of designers, photographers, and cinematographers influenced every single outward facing communication for the company. We had our hands and brains on everything from desktop software used by thousands of film professionals daily, to huge company defining events like introducing the world’s first 4K player, or the world’s first 8K capable camera. After RED, I began working as Creative Director of UX/UI at Weedmaps, the cannabis industry's largest tech company. In one year I reformed the company’s UX department, addressing specific shortcomings and scalability. At the same time, I worked with many teams to convert the Product Design process from waterfall to agile, focusing on getting Designers closer to the means of production. Additionally, I evangelized a unique process based on Research, Brainstorming, Prototyping, and Validation to ensure we were focusing on designing for the user above all else. In 2016 Weedmaps was nominated for a Crunchie, “The Oscars for Startups”, in the ‘Best App’ category alongside Pokemon Go. The same year, Weedmaps was also nominated for a Cannabist Tech award.
