About Jerry Dunsmore
I have been a Web Developer and Programmer since 1997 and have worked both full time and as a contractor. Those very different environments have given me many different skills and experiences. With contracting, I have learned how to adapt. Every company has its own way of doing things and in a short time I need to fit in with the team and be able to develop functionality matching that team and company's expectations. With a full time position, I end up with a number of ‘hats’ that I am required to wear. Each hat has a unique skillset I have to know or learn, while fitting into the team and developing functionality according to expectations.Even with all that experience, I like best being part of a team of equals, rather than a ‘guru’. I find developing robust applications to be both challenging and fun. I am proud of my ability to use my varied experience and skills to tackle any challenge. Although, I do not feel like an expert, since I feel I always have new skills to learn and old skills to improve.I do like to travel and would also entertain jobs that would include travel or even take me overseas.
Listed skills include Asp, Microsoft Sql Server, Vb.Net, Css, and 40 others.

I was asked to join the team to continue to fix problems and create new functionality for their extranet application for coordinating transportation of goods across North America. Web Programmer
I was asked to help complete a project to upgrade a current legacy Intranet Web Application called BatchMon. This project was to convert old technologies and web application methods into a new, more robust and accurate application. We needed to gather old and new data feeds into a more organized and robust database structure. A structure that would be easy to make additions to later as well as make the SQL generated reports more accurate. We also worked on the User Interface, using a combination of XML/XSL, older style Grid views, as well as jQuery to make the data quicker to display and allow more options to view the data.
Web Developer
I continued to use my knowledge of ASP.Net, VB.net, HTML, CSS, Web Services, and to help build intranet web applications. My experience with a wide verity of web technologies, including past experience with legacy or less mainstream systems has been useful in maintaining legacy applications. This has also helped with investigating options to update the current technology. I continued to work on web application front-end as well as back-end systems. I am always looking to see how new technology might be used to enhance, make more robust systems or provide a code base that is easy to modify.
Programmer/Analyst
He was asked to help evaluate DotNetNuke and its multiple portal functionality to determine if DotNetNuke would be viable as part of the Web-package section of their web based product. Second he was asked to develop a Single Sign-On utility to bridge the different parts of their existing PHP web based product to include DotNetNuke if found viable. While evaluating the DotNetNuke framework, he used his knowledge of ASP.Net, VB.Net, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other web development skills to have a deep look into the code base of DotNetNuke and specifically its user security and role functionality. This included creating Modules, Skins, Containers and setting up several DotNetNuke Hosts and portals using ASP.Net, VB.Net, C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the DotNetNuke framework. The Single Sign-On functionality proved best done as a Web Service. This allowed the DotNetNuke and its .Net framework and Computiliy’s system of PHP easily to talk via SOAP while not limiting the Single Sign-On to only work with .Net only with PHP. Written in ASP.Net and C#, the Web Service is able to validate a user-name and password against the user database they already have. Once validated this also sent the user roles the user was part of to allow a website to display information based on the user’s roles. This project needed a unique perspective on ASP.Net, VB.Net, and C #, PHP, SOAP and SQL Server. With over 11 years of experience as a web developer Jerry has worked with all of these skill sets, giving him this unique perspective.
Web / Application Engineer
Hired just as the position was vacated with little information transfer, he was asked to “own” Mudd's intranet called Muddnet. Muddnet is an integral part of Mudd and used by all departments. Muddnet is used to track an advertising campaign from conception at the Sales floor to birth through the Production team and on through maintenance through Accounting. He was asked to review Muddnet and fix flawed page navigation, forms used for inserting and updating of data as well as developing new interfaces, tables and queries for reporting and lead generation. This led him to finding many flaws with systems in Muddnet that were not working or had never worked allowing him to fix these issues with more robust code. These fixes allowed the Sales team to view Sales data in several new ways as well as fixing some flaws in several of the forms used in the Muddnet Online Contract that the Sales force uses ever day. New code also allowed for more accurate printing of the Muddnet Online Contract and new functionality to the Contract as new promotions and product lines were introduced. In addition he pushed for a much clearer division between Development, Testing and Production environments. Muddnet is mostly Classic ASP connected to a SQL Server for data capture. Along with the CIO's plans he started to upgrade using ASP.Net, VB.Net, C# and AJAX when fixing and updating Muddnet functionality. This led to the evaluation of many new AJAX tool and functionality, including enhanced display of data. He was also able to use some DHTML for web applications to allow for highly dynamic web applications allowing the user to edit and navigate through dynamic data displays. In addition to the above he was asked to evaluate new technologies to decide if they could be used to enhance Muddnet. These included XML/XLST/DHTML in conjuntion with the SQL database to create dynamic web interfaces and data, Silverlight, SharePoint and many third party tools and applications.
Web / Application Engineer
Brought in to use his Classic ASP, VBScript and varied database experience. He was asked to fix broken functionality of the web version of SMART's Access and SQL Server product. SMART had a product that used MS Access as a front end and a SQL Server backend to collect and retrieve data for police departments across the country. With many different versions of the product they needed someone to help maintain the web version. This included unwinding some old convoluted code and to fix flawed page navigation, broken forms used for inserting and updating of data and also find and fix broken SQL queries and stored procedures. He was also asked to use his experience with Access, SQL Server and other databases to help convert client databases to the main product SQL Server database schema. He used a combination of stored procedures and temporary tables to insert and a client's data into the SMART product database. The data came from the clients in many different forms making it difficult to convert and requiring knowledge of legacy database systems. He started working with ASP.Net, VB.Net and C# as SMART was working on a new version of the product that was to be written using .Net technologies. He had a previous desire to learn .Net and anticipation of using these skills to help maintain the new system.
Web Programmer
He was brought in to use his experience with Classic ASP, VBScript, SQL Server and other web technologies to help repair broken functionality for interdepartmental and external web applications. IDED has many different web applications that are used by both internal as well as external users. Some functionality did not work, did not work as expected or was non-existent. Applications where written in Classic ASP, and VBScript, using a SQL server back-end. Jerry examined the web applications to find and fix flawed page navigation, forms used for inserting and updating of data as well as developing new interfaces, database tables and data queries for several web applications. This team worked using Visual Source Safe. Discussed using XML/XLST/DHTML for some interactive and data display.
Web Developer
Asked to build a web application to help track the completion of employee online courses. Using Cold Fusion, SQL Server and other common web development tools this application was quickly completed. Then asked to take on more general IT duties.

Quickly learned Cold Fusion, Perl, JSP, SQL Server and the other common web development tools and joined the development team as one of several Developers that could pull all the pieces together for a website's navigation and functionality to work as expected.. This team included a Graphic Designer, Database Administrator and Network Administrator which allowed some cross training.
