At the beginning of this endeavor, it was believed QA needed to be focused on testing new features and performing regression testing at the end of a sprint cycle. Before long, it became apparent that quality influence needed to expanded beyond traditional testing efforts and into feature planning, defining acceptance criteria, and controlling when features would be merged and released. As platform quality improved and pace of feature development increased, my role expanded into the duties of software release manager. Significant coordination is needed between business stakeholders, product owners, multiple development teams, and customers regarding when features would be available for user acceptance testing and eventual release. This orchestration involves careful code management, branching strategies, automated deployment to test environments, and increased test automation with the inclusion of DevOps methodologies. As processes continuously improved, so did quality in the platform and were able to provide clear separation between internal testing, user-acceptance testing, and release.
