As part of the Driver Integration Team, I coordinated MIPS and ARM Linux driver development activity between several television set-top box hardware OEMs and a provider of entertainment via direct-broadcast satellite and broadband internet. This group also performed root-cause analysis for identified faults.My group also developed and refined an Android-based next-generation streaming media receiver for commercial launch, and I updated set-top server software to deliver satellite and broadband content to that client over IPv6.

The Local Ad Inserter (LAdI) is an appliance used by cable and satellite TV vendors to schedule and display advertisements atop Music Choice program channels. It previously ran on Linux on 32-bit Intel hardware using a PCI interface card. I was hired to adapt the software to run on modern 64-bit hardware, including a newly-designed ASI interface card based on PCI Express. To use the PCIe card, I wrote a new device driver for the Linux kernel, coordinating with the card's offsite FPGA firmware developer. The appliance moved from a traditional video console for configuration and status to a 4-line LCD display. I wrote a C and a perl interface module to that LCD, and the new user interface to run on top of it. I also developed a field installer system to allow our customers to download new software and firmware that they could install using a USB flash drive.

In Teradata's Lifecycle Engineering group, I worked to resolve outstanding defects in multi-server systems running the Teradata Database. I worked with our Global Support Center (GSC) to identify symptoms and reproduce the failures in our laboratory. I consulted with other engineering groups within Teradata to identify root causes within application software, the Linux operating system, Linux kernel drivers, firmware, and hardware, and to pursue remedies with appropriate vendors. Once a remedy was available, I collaborated with GSC and engineering to develop and document procedures to deploy updated software, drivers, and firmware in the field, with particular attention to minimizing disruption of database service to the customer.
