About Jill Lipoti, Ph.D.
I realized that art could serve as a conduit to improving understanding of science, but that science could benefit from artistic perspectives in ensuring that there was an emotional connection from the data to the policies that could emanate from scientific understanding. I spoke at events sponsored by LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers. From 2008 to 2019, as a hobbyist, I experimented with different shapes and designs at the NY/NJ Academy of Ceramic Arts. Under the direction of Frank Bosco, Founder of the Academy and Senior Critic at the Rhode Island School of Design, I explored the science behind ceramic arts, glazing, and firing techniques. My work was exhibited at Fusion Corner, West Harlem Art Fund, New York, NY. I belonged to the Roosevelt Arts Project in Roosevelt, NJ, from 2013-2018. The camaraderie of the artists in Roosevelt stimulated my artistic curiosity, and grounded me in the natural setting that provides Roosevelt a sense of place.Fast forward to moving to Whidbey Island, my exploration of art will continue to serve as a way to enhance public understanding of ecology, environment, and social justice. My goal is to create “art that walks in the world”. My ceramic pieces reflect interconnectedness in aquatic environments, forests, and soil. I hope my artistic journey will include collaborating with fellow scientists and artists, and creating art that enhances emotional connection between people and their environment.
Listed skills include Environmental Awareness, Environmental Compliance, Water Quality, Environmental Science, and 46 others.
