Profile bio

About Jimmy Mcclellan

I am a first-generation high school & college graduate, educator working in the nonprofit sector, and local government leader seeking to build more equitable communities. At APLU, I oversee a grant funded by the Lumina Foundation focused on the educational success of adult learners of color (25+). My work centers on engaging campus and community partners in urban areas across the US to learn what mechanisms and policy-changes can improve the success and well-being of adult learners. I hope to continue expanding my impact and help colleges and universities create senses of belonging and support systems for all of their students. In addition to my full-time role, I also serve as an elected councilmember for my City. I’m proud to represent my neighbors and advocate for change to make our community an even greater place to live. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time at home with my two dogs cheering on my favorite college sports teams (Go Florida Gators, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Maryland Terrapins!) or exploring the world with my fiancé (33 countries and counting!).

Listed skills include Teaching, Public Speaking, Student Affairs, Leadership, and 20 others.
