As head of Applied R&D, a division that I founded within the AI lab, I am responsible for the strategy, management and securing necessary funding through licensing, bilateral contracts, and public grants. I manage a team of 10 people, of which 6 AI researchers.

I founded the programme to educate professionals from industry & public institutions in AI. We implement a unique game & experience-oriented approach and have given training to the European Commission, the European Parliament, Telenet among others.

I teach “Current Trends in AI” and “Communication skills for IT students” and have supervised >40 Ba/Ma theses and 2 PhD students. I organise “AI challenges” where students build an AI-powered prototype in collaboration with an industrial partner. I also give professional training (e.g. postgraduate in AI at Erasmus Hogeschool Brussel)

With the renewed interest in AI, I expanded the AI labs collaborations with external parties, both nationally and internationally, by attracting R&D funding, and increasing our presence online and offline. In this role, I gave >50 talks and co-organised the 31st Benelux AI conference BNAIC in 2019.

A non-profit that provides managed hosting services and web design to small scale philanthropic, artistic & cultural initiatives.

A new independent school has been founded in Brussels, based on the pedagogical principles of Célestin Freinet and Thomas Gordon. As member of the board, I assisted in kicking off this project.

I was part of the “research department” that performs consultancy and innovation projects for the Belgian government. My specialization included cost reduction, highly available and scalable software architectures and cloud computing. This led to a patent application ”Method and devices for secure data access and exchange” in collaboration with VAZG and eHealth.

The research in the PhD treats the modelling of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) at IC-level. It consists of developing analysis methods, algorithms and tools to detect and predict potential problems in an Integrated Circuits when it is distrubed by Electromagnetic Interference. A lot of the work was done in cooperation with ON Semiconductor, a chip manufacturer for the automotive industry.

In collaboration with a telecom broker, I developed a telephone call routing and billing software for analogue and VoIP devices, deployed in 7 call centres.

At the age of 16, I sold my first software suite for lawyers, installed in 5 offices that ran for >10 years. In 2001 an extension was developed specifically tailored to the needs of lawyers of the RSZ (Belgian main social security institution).
