About John Tharp
Product Manager and Meteorologist, specializing in weather intelligence offerings and weather decision support. I’m passionate about creating solutions that help organizations navigate weather-related risks with greater confidence and clarity. The foundation of my career is 10+ years of operational meteorology experience including leadership roles driving the success of teams of meteorologists as well as spending countless hours directly consulting with customers to aid their decision making around extreme weather events. That work allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the wide range of challenges facing weather decision makers. It also highlighted for me the major gaps in how the weather industry conveys uncertainty and the associated usability challenges for non-technical consumers of weather information. Building on my desire to improve the quality and experience around weather data and weather forecasts, I transitioned into Product Management at the start of 2020. Since that time I have been focused on enhancing the technology experience for weather data users and decision makers as well as working closely with science and engineering teams to incorporate AI and other emerging technologies to improve the underlying forecast quality. My background enables me to effectively bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders and I greatly enjoy collaborating across diverse teams to understand customer challenges and develop innovative solutions.
Listed skills include Meteorology, Weather Forecasting, Weather, Severe Weather, and 7 others.
