A Spark High-Performance Computing Package that includes a native C++ shuffle engine, a native memory store and a shared-memory allocator have been developed and open-sourced under Apache License 2.0. The package is dynamically loadable at runtime when launching Spark jobs.*Led development of a large-scale high-dimensional similarity search framework (for example, to support image similarity search). The search mechanism is based on Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH). Large space-efficient in-memory index tables are constructed and retrieved at local memory access speed to support the search.*Developed and evaluated modifications to Hadoop (HDFS and MapReduce) by replacing disk-based file systems with in-memory file systems, and forcing shuffle communication over in-memory file systems, on multicore big-memory machines. *Led development of a cloud service that support large-scale, low-cost delivery of healthcare applications by allowing encrypted sensitive data records to be stored in a public cloud environment, while allowing the data owner to control the creation and sharing of the encryption keys. *Led development of a multi-tenant cloud-based electronic medical records (EMR) system for small clinics. Used the measured system performance and the annual cloud infrastructure cost to estimate the cloud-based EMR system’s subscription-based pricing and profitability.
