James L. Whiteside, MD, MA, MHA is currently professor with tenure of Obstetrics and Gynecology at East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine. At this institution he also serves as the Division Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS). Prior to coming to North Carolina, Dr. Whiteside was professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati where he served as the Division Director of FPMRS as well as the Residency Program Director and Vice Chair of Education. Dr. Whiteside completed his undergraduate studies at The College of William and Mary in Virginia followed by a graduate degree in Botany at the University of Georgia. Following medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brown University/Women and Infant’s Hospital. He next completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Whiteside also holds a Masters in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Cincinnati. He is nationally recognized for his research and commentary on topics ranging from anatomy to ethics with over 80 scientific articles, book chapters and publications in diverse media. He a grant reviewer for both national and international research in pelvic floor dysfunction. He is also an awarded reviewer for over 10 scientific journals and has served on the Editorial Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
