Inspiration Coal Inc. was an $80M coal mining and minerals management company. They owned and leased numerous mining operations and properties in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. I was instrumental in developing and implementing a business plan which brought positive cash flow to the company for the first time in more than a decade.I managed the accounting, IT and purchasing departments, with a staff of 15 full-time employees. I controlled and implemented accounting procedures and policies as set forth by corporate headquarters. I presented monthly financial/operations results and variance analysis to corporate officers. I prepared consolidation entries and tax books for roll up to corporate. I advised the executive committee on business and operational trends. My staff was responsible for all monthly/annual/long range forecasts and budgets. I was responsible for the valuations of the operating and mineral properties during the divestiture phase of the company.

Round Mountain Gold Corporation was a joint venture between Echo Bay Mines, Homestake Mining, and Case Pomeroy. The operation had annual revenues of $125M.I managed the accounting and warehouse departments, with a staff of 29 full-time employees. I controlled and implemented accounting procedures and policies as set forth by the partnership. I developed and established internal control procedures and accounting policies for the joint venture. I presented monthly financial/operations results and variance analysis to corporate officers and joint venture partners. I prepared consolidation entries for partner financial books. I advised the executive committee on business and operational trends. My team was responsible for all monthly/annual/long range forecasts and budgets. I was also the liaison between the project engineering/operations departments and corporate finance department.

Cyprus Mountain Coals Inc. was a $120M subsidiary of Cyprus Minerals. Co. I supervised preparation of monthly financial statements and variance analysis (both financial and operating). I supervised preparation of all monthly/annual/five year economic forecasts. I was responsible for coordination and development of the $100M operations budget. I coordinated, reviewed and presented the economic analysis of major cash spending (projects to $60M). I was responsible for preparation of financial presentations to corporate officers.

Cyprus Straight Creek was a $26M surface mining operation supplying coal to Southern Company, and Cyprus Emerald Resources was a $125M underground mining operation supplying met coal to J&L Steel.I supervised the accounts payable and payroll functions. I prepared operating budgets. I prepared monthly financial forecasts and variance analysis (both financial and operating). I analyzed major cash projects (to $20M) for economic feasibility. I examined accounts for discrepancies. I developed a computer model that was adopted company wide to prepare budgets reducing forecasting time by 80% while improving timeliness and accuracy. I prepared journal entries.

Emerald Resources was a $120M coal operation providing met coal to J&L Steel.I coordinated the installation and implementation of computer systems in new offices (accounts payable, financial analysis, purchase order processing, among others). I trained and assisted personnel with the use of computer systems and languages (COBOL, FORTRAN, CORPLAN, IFPS, VAX, CMS). I developed computer models for financial and engineering applications that were adopted for use company wide. I coordinated the payroll function.
