How does someone with a sculpture degree and substantive experience in tv and film segue into IT and come to love Python and data science? It was a wandering road, that’s for sure, but along the way, I’ve garnered art commissions, built a semblance of a museum, created scorpions out of wax – in fact, I even built an outhouse once. After all of that, I’ve settled on data science as the perfect marriage of storytelling and technology.Besides some great anecdotes about a Call of Duty pseudo-museum, an ill-fated VR comedy show involving a chimpanzee, and a pinata shaped like a brain, I’ve honed my hands-on problem-solving skills as well as my ability to work independently on projects no matter how large in scope. Through my coursework – both the academic classes I’ve taken the supplemental instruction I seek out on my own, I’ve sharpened my technical skills, including:➢Programming languages and frameworks include Python, HTML 5, JQuery, JavaScript, SQL, MYSQL, CSS, C/C++, VBScript➢ Software experience with subversion control (GIT), AWS, MongoDB, Visual Studio, Xcode, Atom, Mendix, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Access, advanced Excel, and Active Directory; experience with Windows, Linux, and OSX operating systems; basic knowledge of Photoshop, and IllustratorGetting back to data and why it’s central to my own story and to almost every decision companies face, I decided to focus in this realm because I am adept at not just approaching a data set and understanding how to make sense of it but also giving it to key stakeholders in a format that essentially speaks in terms they can easily digest.
