About Jeffrey Binder
I am the author of the book Language and the Rise of the Algorithm, a wide-ranging history of algorithmic thinking out now with University of Chicago Press, and a senior data scientist at Formstack, where I develop methods for automated data classification. I have a PhD in English with specialties in computational text analysis and the history of technology. I have done extensive historical research using text mining along with documentary research methods, which I have communicated both in academic writing and in teaching over two hundred undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. I am excited by new linguistic technologies such as neural language models, and I am eager to work at the intersection of computation and language.
