Participated in the Hanson Lab by synthesizing thioglycoside analogs of bacterial peptidoglycan. I described and performed a multi-step synthetic route to create the necessary thiol containing muramic acid derivative, 4-thio-4-deoxyMurNAc-pNP, which was coupled to pNP-GlcNAc using mutant glycosidases, and subsequently tested as a lysozyme substrate.
