Commander of a 470 Soldier Brigade Special Troops Battalion with the requirement for deployment in support of contingency operations anywhere in the world. Responsible to build and maintain the war fighting capabilities of four subordinate companies and the Brigade HQ, ensuring the Battalion is ready to conduct full spectrum operations in combat and support homeland defense operations as required by the Governor of Illinois. Provides guidance and oversight of BN's training, logistics, personnel and resource management. Creates and sustains a positive, moral, and ethical command climate that fosters professional development and the well-being of each Soldier. Models highest standard of professionalism, integrity, commitment, and competence. Provides for the welfare, morale, discipline and safety of the BSTB's Soldiers. Proactively supports BSTB families, communities and employers.o Achieved a 113% retention rate, maintained unit strength over 110%, and consistently exceeded National Guard Bureau's DMOSQ goal of 95% in spite of the numerous low density specialties found in the BSTB. o Successfully managed 54 different occupational specialties to lead the BSTB to a 98% DMOSQ rate - the highest in the Brigade. 0 Soldier care is a primary concern. Championed Officer and NCO professional development across the Battalion, resulting in the highest attendance rate for NCOES/OES in the Brigade and mentored 12 Soldiers to enter commissioning programs this year. o Worked with the State Aviation Officer and the FAA, to receive approval to conduct UAV training flights in controlled civilian airspace at the Havana Regional Airport saving the ILARNG approximately $170,000 per year in travel costs. o Aggressively addressed property accountability reducing $4.8 million in excess property and closed out multiple FLIPL investigations, correcting lingering property book issues resulting from past operational deployments supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
