Work with broiler farmers in conventional and RWA settings to improve flock performance and welfare. Hours are variable, and farms located throughout the province of Alberta. General field servicing includes barn walkthroughs, necropsies, environmental and tissue sampling, review of flock data and culling. Welfare assessments are completed on-farm for grow-out and catches using the Welfare Tool developed internally by Maple Leaf. Communication, empathy, listening and excellent customer service are required to maintain relationships between stakeholders.

Work on Emergency Management includes sitting on the advisory committee, collaborate in working groups from all featherboards to improve efficiency and functionality of the Emergency Response Program. Facilitated workshops aimed at small flock owners in Spruce Grove and Red Deer in conjunction with Peavey Mart. Organized delivery of chicks for annual chick hatch sales through Peavey Mart at 25 locations across AB (including sorting chicks on 2 hatch days at university hatchery, culling, following up with customers).www.heritagechickens.ca

Completed an on-farm field study with multiple broiler producers throughout Alberta from January-September 2015. Study investigated factors affecting foot pad dermatitis and foot pad assessment methods. Completed a 39 day broiler trial at the Poultry Research Centre from Oct- Nov 2015. Trial looked at impact of litter material and raised platforms on foot pad quality of broiler chickens. Presented both studies at the Poultry Science Association 2016 conference and was awarded a certificate of excellence for presentation in the student competition. Successfully defended on August 30th, 2016.
