Plant AutomationAs Director of Information Systems, Plant Automated Systems & Standards, I created an environment within the manufacturing plants that allows for the continuous collection of data and flow of information from the operating equipment on the plant floor to the various applications that manage the overall business. This includes the implementation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Power systems monitoring and analysis, and the creation of the supporting infrastructure to support this in a very harsh operating environment. I provided the necessary vision for interconnecting the individual work cell to the overall plant wide system, replicating this across multiple plants within each subsidiary while ensuring that systems rolled out using a common structure. I maintained a strong focus on program and change management as I developed the new architecture. Power & EnergyIn addition, I had a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Vice-President of Engineering. I acted as his Power and Energy consultant on all major capital investments. I wrote projects and implemented programs that continue to return approximately $16MM per year in cost avoidance in energy consumption. Additionally, I developed projects such as peak shaving power generation, heat recovery, and efficient lighting systems that save an estimated $30MM per year. Most of these projects had 1 to 2 year simple payback.

Reporting to: The Director of Engineering I directed and managed all areas of plant systems including electrical and utilities in the largest pork slaughter and processing plant in the world. I worked with contractors and controlled the bidding on electrical projects with budgets in excess of $500,000. I was the acting chief electrical engineer and manager of over 30 electricians and electronics technicians in the electrical maintenance department including maintenance of the main processing plant, rendering plant, boiler plant, waste water and water reuse facility. This included management of a 28.5 megawatt co-generation facility including 19 Caterpillar 3516 diesel generators. I worked with the other engineering disciplines to upgrade plant systems and equipment to achieve the best quality products available with the greatest efficiency possible with emphasis on dollars per head savings or cost. I redesigned the plant grounding system and retrofitted the existing in-ground electrical distribution with an above-ground loop for redundancy.
