A senior Manager with extensive experience in both the public and private sector. After a 21-year career as an Officer in the Irish Defence Forces, John Minihan retired in 1996 to run the family pharmacy business. In 1999, he entered local politics and was elected to Cork City Council, representing the Progressive Democrats. He was also elected National Party Chairman, serving a four-year term. He was a member of Seanad Eireann from 2002 to 2007 and served on the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Science. As Party spokesman on Education and Childcare, he regularly contributed to national debates on a variety of issues. After politics, he held senior management posts in the healthcare sector, working with the UK based European Care Group. Subsequently, John held the position of Director of Services with the Bentley Healthcare Group prior to holding the position of CEO of the Ditchley Group (2014 to 2019) He is now employed as a Healthcare Consultant filling a number of roles both in the Primary Care and the Nursing Home sector.In 2019 he was appointed Honorary Consul for Malta in the south of IrelandJohn completed a Masters programme in Social Science (Social Policy) at UCC and was awarded a first class honours degree. His thesis addressed the specific challenges in dementia care in a community setting. He brings a wide range of experience to both corporate and civic organisations from his knowledge of public policy to his management experience in a highly regulated environment.
