As the Director of Engineering for Design Systems, I have the privilege of leading a talented team of primarily UI/UX engineers who are responsible for building the tools that equip our marketers, designers, and developers to scale our brand and create world-class customer experiences. Our in-house design system empowers the team to build in a fraction of the time, saving 80% of what we used to spend on an average marketing page.As a member of our Platform Engineering team, I led the engineers responsible for two of our enterprise-grade platform solutions: CMS and eCommerce. Our CMS platform, Magnolia, hosts our company website, RamseySolutions.com, which receives over 12 million visits per month. And our online store receives over 15,000 orders per month across our many best-selling books and other consumer product lines.

After moving into leadership, I continued to provide technical leadership and contributed as a senior developer for the ELP team but also took on the responsibility to manage our team's work and lead the other front-end developers on the team. I grew the team from 1 other developer to 3 developers, and together we were responsible for all of the marketing development and consumer-facing product work for the ELP department. Before moving to the platform team, I led our team through an adoption of the new company CMS, Magnolia, which empowered the marketing and design teams to build their own pages and freed up the development team to focus on other UI/UX development.

In addition to my responsibility to continue delivering high-quality UI/UX development work, as a senior developer I provided technical leadership and mentorship to my team and other teams in the company. I led our Front-End Development Chapter, where all of our front-end developers in the company would meet to share knowledge or work on cross-team initiatives. And I maintained our company design system, which I founded with members of our DaveRamsey.com development team.

After I transitioned into a dedicated front-end role, a large portion of my day-to-day work was building landing pages for marketing campaigns. This involved a high level of collaboration with the marketing and design team to create successful campaigns such as our annual tax campaign or May giveaway, which involved building a contest form which accepted millions of entries over the course of a month. I was also able to be part of launching or re-launching two new digital products.

As a general "web programmer" I was bouncing around between front-end, back-end, and reporting tasks in service of our Endorsed Local Providers business. This involved writing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ColdFusion, and SQL from day to day. My work included making updates to customer-facing pages on DaveRamsey.com, adding new features to our internal CRM tool, and writing queries against our (complex) transactional data model.

In addition to my responsibilities as Visual Media Director, my senior year I led all of our department heads and reported to our faculty advisor with full responsibility for the radio station. This included support for my team as we planned campus events, started a news program, conducted listener tests of our music, and created programming for a morning and evening show.

As the webmaster, or "Visual Media Director," I was primarily responsible for the radio station's website but also partnered with the promotions director to handle marketing via the website, posters throughout the campus, and a TV mounted outside our office. I led a team of volunteers who contributed content to the website and designed our website and other visual materials. The website was a custom-built PHP application with a back-end to allow non-technical users to update the content, and a connection to our studio software which allowed both listening online and showing the currently playing song on our website.

As a student worker for the campus Center for Teaching & Learning, I was part of a team providing support to our professors when they needed technology solutions for the classroom. This included configuration of WebCT (later Blackboard) online courses but also the development of custom websites for both classes and tenure applications. I was working primarily as a front-end developer with some back-end programming in a custom PHP CMS.
